We are excited to offer this opportunity to bring music to the children and congregation of Unity Temple on the Plaza.  Our hope is to create an environment of exploration, inspiration, and FUN for the youth of this church!

Goals:

Some of our goals include:

• Regular monthly performances during the services
• Introduction to basic musical concepts and reading music
• Learning to work creatively within a group
• Building self-esteem and self-confidence through performance opportunities
• Finding joy through musical, spiritual expression

Guidelines:

To create this special and sacred environment for the children, the following guidelines will be maintained:

• Rehearsals will begin promptly at 11:40 and end at 12:05 in the Charles Fillmore Chapel.
• Please bring your child as quickly as possible to the rehearsal space following service and check them in.
• We will provide vocal warm-ups for the first 5 minutes of rehearsal, followed by work on the performance material.
• Parents are welcome to stay in the chapel during rehearsal, but are asked to sit quietly in the back until rehearsal concludes.
• Please pick your child up promptly at the end of rehearsal.

Communication:

We will be creating an e-mail list serve to communicate with all the choir families.  Should your child be unable to come a rehearsal or performance, PLEASE email both Susan and Lyra at the addresses below as soon as possible to alert them.

If you do not have access to email, then please contact Lyra and Susan via phone.

Expectations

It is critical that the children be in attendance at rehearsals, and especially at performances.  Even one voice missing changes the dynamics and strengths of the group as a whole.  While emergencies and extenuating family circumstances occur all the time, repeated absences may result in the child being unable to participate in the choir.

It is also critical that the children respect the personal boundaries and guidelines of the choir directors and the other children.  With such a short rehearsal period each Sunday, the children should be prepared to (joyfully! :) participate and have fun with the music, without compromising the focus and goals of the rehearsal period.

Good Manners and Positive Behavior are greatly appreciated, and create
a nuturing musical environment for all!!

The key in any case is communication.  We are here to provide a service that we feel is vital to the children’s spiritual and musical growth within this wonderful church family at Unity Temple on the Plaza.  We both are deeply committed to making this musical group the very best that it can be, and want to ensure that the children have an inspiring, creative experience with the guidelines outlined above.
