U-Thrive: The Enneagram & Our 3 Basic Instincts, Tuesdays, August 21 - August 28, 2018, 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Charles Fillmore Chapel. Last week's Enneagram class was filled with so much great energy and insights! It's not too late to join. This class continues on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30pm this week (8/21) and next week (8/28) and ALL ARE WELCOME--including those who are new to the Enneagram. (Each session can be taken on a stand-alone basis). We hope you'll join us for an opportunity to learn about the fundamentally different ways different personality types approach getting our basic needs met in life.

The Enneagram is an ancient system of sacred psychology that supports personal growth and spiritual awakening. In this class, we'll explore how our basic Enneagram Types are impacted by how we unconsciously prioritize (i.e., "stack") the 3 basic instincts of life: our sexual, social, and self-preservation instincts. Becoming conscious of our stacking tendencies is the beginning of freeing ourselves from habituated patterns that can sabotage our peace and prevent us from living from our own wholeness. Recognizing our own “blind spots” and the ways our stackings differ from the stackings of those around us is the beginning of building bridges of compassion, empathy, and understanding.

Recommended: It is recommended but NOT mandatory that you have a basic working knowledge of the Enneagram before taking this "Level 2" intermediate class.

Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support Group, August 23, 2018, 6:30pm - 8:00pm, Heritage Room. Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support Parenting can be one of the most challenging roles of our lives, yet few of us walk into it having the inner resources and skill sets it demands. Mindfulness practices can be a powerful source of refuge while managing the challenges of modern-day parenting. Being a mindful parent means living with greater awareness of our moment-to-moment experience while cultivating a nonjudgmental acceptance of ourselves and our children. The intention and invitation of the Mindful Parenting: Practice and Support group is to offer a space for parents, grandparents, child care providers and educators to explore a fuller knowing of themselves and their deepest needs while honoring the sovereignty of the children they care about.

This group meets the fourth Thursday of the month.

Monthly session content will include formal meditation practice, presentations of themes within mindful parenting and community discussion.

Whether new to mindful parenting and mindfulness-based practices or a seasoned practitioner, this monthly offering will provide participants a means to cultivate their personal practice and find support among others who seek to be fully present for the journey of caring for themselves while also caring for children. This group is facilitated by Amy Zoe Schonhoff, a mother, qualified teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and a mindfulness practitioner for over twenty years.

Deepening Practice, Saturday, August 25, 2018, 9:00am - 1:00pm, Charles Fillmore Chapel. Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm seeing of the true nature of things. By engaging with a particular meditation practice you learn the patterns and habits of your mind, and the practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With regular work and patience, this nourishing focus can deepen into profoundly peaceful and energized states of mind. Such experiences can have a transformative effect and can lead to a new perspective on life.

The Meaning of Dreams, Saturday, September 1, 2018, 10:00am - 11:30am, Classroom D."The Meaning of Dreams: Carl Jung's model of dream interpretation explained." Andrew Sherwood, MSW, Ph.D. will discuss his personal discovery of Jungian psychology and working with the unconscious.  His talk will focus on dream interpretation using examples from his private practice.

Sherwood is a Jungian Analyst, member of the Ontario Association of Jungian Analysts (Toronto, Canada) and practices in the Kansas City area. This educational program is free and open to the public.

Learning the skills of mindfulness can help family members strengthen attention and focus, learn to handle life situations with less emotional reactivity and greater balance, while cultivating a sense of well-being and compassion for self and others.

6-Week Mindful Family Class
This Mindful Family class is designed for families with children ages 6-12, who are seeking practical skills and tools to reduce stress and create a calmer, happier and more connected family.

In this weekly one-hour class we will:

•Learn about the brain and neural integration
