To stay true to the dedication of the spiritual center, to make steady progress toward realizing our vision and to successfully carry out our mission, we have chosen three areas of focus:
We believe enlightenment is the awareness that all life comes forth from one source. God Spirit is the essence of every person, expressing itself in the physical realm as good. There are not degrees of goodness or worthiness in people. Every person is inherently divine.
First and foremost, it is the goal of Unity to be a place where all people are welcome and where differences are celebrated as the splendor of God’s creative expression. The teachings of Unity are dedicated to realizing the oneness that exists between all people. We also are dedicated to setting in place a collective consciousness that is free of prejudices, discriminations and inequalities of any kind.
The young mind is like fertile ground where any seeds planted will take root and grow. If children live with condemnation, they grow into adults with little self-worth. If children are exposed to prejudices and discriminations, they grow into adults who feel fear and separation around those different from them, preventing a full experience of love. If children are overly criticized, they lose sight of their natural talents and abilities and become adults with little purpose or meaning in their lives.
The youth education program at Unity Temple, as well as all activities and events, are designed to instill in children an appreciation for the diversity of the world. They offer them a strong sense of self-esteem and self-worth. The program encourages children to discover their unique and individual talents and express them freely.
The ministry of Unity Temple on the Plaza goes beyond the walls of our church. We intend to create a more active and ever-growing outreach program that takes our mission into the community. After the basic essentials of food, clothing and shelter, love is the single most important thing that guarantees the survival of individual spirit and humanity as a whole. Community outreach includes the homeless and/or destitute, the homebound or hospitalized, and people of all ages who feel powerless to move beyond abusive or less-than-wholesome living conditions.
